Pennsylvania is one of the 13 original states and was originally founded in 1681 as a result of a royal land grant to William Penn, the son of the state's namesake.
Sarah Lupton Pickering was born June 22, 1716 in Newtown Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Her birth was recorded in the Middletown Monthly meeting minutes. Her parents were Joseph Lupton and Mercy Twining.
She married her step brother, Isaac Pickering, in 1738 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Isaac was the son of Mary Scarborough and Samuel Pickering. Isaac was born on February 23, 1716 in Solebury Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was a blacksmith and farmer.
Sarah and Isaac were members of the Buckingham Friends’ Meeting. Issac was overseer and elder for many years. He was also one of the trustees of the Stone School House at Centre Hill.
Their children included:
Joseph Pickering (1739, married Jane Paxon),
Sarah Pickering (1741, married Joseph Butler),
Mary Pickering (1743, died unmarried),
Mercy Pickering (1745, married Joseph Roberts),
twins, Isaac and Samuel Pickering (1747, died young),
Jonathan Pickering (1750, married Mary Williams),
Rachel Pickering (1752, married step-brother, Solomon Wright), and
Esther Pickering (1755, died young).
They did not move to Frederick County, Virginia with their families about 1740. In 1742, Isaac bought a farm which had been the property of his maternal grandfather, John Scarborough. This was next to his parent's farm.
Sarah died on May 27, 1778.
After her death, Isaac Pickering married Sidney Wright,
Isaac Pickering, of Solesbury Township in the County of Bucks and Province of Pennsylvania and Sidney Wright, of the County of Frederick and Coloney of Virginia; 8th day of 3d month, 1780; at Back Creek.
Sidney was the widow of Isaac Wright.
In 1757, according to the Hopewell records, Isaac and Sidney and their four children were attacked by the indigenous people. In 1764 Isaac Wright was disowned. In 1773 Solomon Wright the son of Isaac
was bound to Abel Walker and Mary was bound out to Richard Ridgeway until
she came of age. Isaac's will was probated in 1777 in Frederick County.
Isaac died on December 31, 1798 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

. . .Isaac Pickering, was the second child of Samuel and Mary (Scarborough) Pickering, and was born on the old homestead in Solebury, between the upper and lower York roads, two miles east of Lahaska, 12 mo. 23, 1716. He was a blacksmith by trade, and followed that occupation during nearly his whole life in connection with farming.
He purchased in 1742, a farm adjoining the homestead, which had been the property of his maternal grandfather, John Scarborough, where he lived and died.
He was a prominent member of Buckingham Friends’ Meeting, holding the position of overseer and elder for many years. He was also one of the trustees of the “Stone School House” at Centre Hill. He died in December, 1798, at the age of eighty-two years. He was married in 1738 to Sarah Lupton, and (secondly) late in life to Sidney Wright, a widow, and the mother of Solomon Wright, who had married his daughter Rachel.
Isaac and Sarah (Lupton) Pickering were the parents of nine children, viz:
1. Joseph, born 5 mo. 9, 1739; married 8 mo. 18, 1762, Jane Paxon,
2. Sarah, born 2 mo. 27, 1741; married 12 mo. 14, 1763, Joseph Butler.
3. Mary, born 5 mo. 13, 1743; died unmarried.
4. Mercy, born 8 mo. 27, 1745; married 5 mo. 11, 1774. Joseph Roberts.
5 and 6. Isaac and Samuel, born 1 mo. 27, 1747, died young.
7. Jonathan, born 2 mo. 15, 1750; married in 1773 Mary Williams, of Shrewsbury, New Jersey.
8 Rachel, born 2 mo. 17, 1752; married 6 mo. 13, 1787, Solomon Wright, the schoolmaster.
9. Esther, born 6 mo. 6, 1755, died young.
Early Quakers were persecuted. In the Massachusetts Bay colony, Friends were banished on pain of death.

Sidney Wright, a widow, of Solebury. Bucks County, married as second husband. Isaac Pickering, a widower, born 1716, died 1798, who by his first wife had several children, one of whom, Rachel, born 1752, married Solomon Wright, son of Sidney, by her first husband.
Solomon Wright and Rachel Pickering were married at Buckingham Meeting of Friends, June 13, 1787. The will of his mother, Sidney Pickering, of Solebury. dated June 10,1800, and proved June 24, 1812, makes her son. Solomon Wright, executor, and mentions children, John, James, Edward, Nathan and Solomon Wright; daughters, Ruth Fenton, and Mary Adams; daughter-in-law, Rachel Wright, wife of Solomon.

He m., 1st, Mercy Twining, from near Newtown, and 2d, Mary Pickering (b. Scarborough, widow Samuel, who came from England), and after this second marriage removed to Virginia. . .
